The Perils of Perfume
The perils of perfume

Use caution when getting dressed at home for an evening out. Be sure to put on your favorite perfume or cologne in time for it to dry before you get dressed.

Perfume, along with cologne and other scented products like lotions, will many times contain ingredients, such as alcohol, that can cause discoloring in your garments. Just a touch on the wrist can result in slight color change to the cuff of your shirt; spraying on the neck can do the same to your collar.

And while shopping for perfume can provide an afternoon or evening of sensory delight, it can also become a real headache when it comes to your fine clothing. The best way to approach this challenge is to spray the perfume onto the paper sample cards you find next to the perfume bottle.

Advice to ignore

If someone recommends you use hair spray or, heaven forbid, alcohol to remove an ink stain, be sure to say thanks – but no thanks! This method is often touted as a good remedy for removing ink stains, but this is one hint you should definitely ignore. This unsafe practice could actually result in “pulling color,” which is irreversible. The safest way to remove any stain, let alone ink, is to bring it to a professional cleaner as soon as possible for prompt, treatment. And be sure to point out the stain to the dry cleaning staff or attach a note. Remember – a fresh stain is always easier to remove than one which has set for some time. ARTICLE END
