Q&A with Kermit
An expert’s advice on storing clothes; the life expectancy of shirts; and how to wash wool blankets.
Q: Should I store my clothes in the plastic bags provided by Fashion Cleaners?
A: The bags we provide are intended only to protect your clothing until you get them home. Since fabrics breathe, it’s best to store your outfits uncovered or in fabric garment bags.
Q: How long can I expect my shirts to last?
A: On average, you can expect a shirt to last about two years. But the number of launderings is a better measure. The average shirt should have a wear life of 35-50 washings, depending upon wear, fiber content, fabric type and the laundering procedure.
Q: Can I wash my wool blanket?
A: If the manufacturer’s instructions indicate, then yes. But woven or knit fabric wool blankets require special precautions when cleaning. Hot water or drying temps can make them shrink and feel harsh or stiff. Even if you follow the care instructions, some wool blankets may still shrink. But all wool blankets can be successfully dry cleaned. If your blanket is missing its care label, or you just want to be sure it won’t shrink, it’s best to bring it in for professional cleaning.
