Precious Heirlooms
When you think of a precious heirloom the first thing that comes to mind may be a christening gown or wedding dress. But you may have other items in the attic that you may want to save for future generations, for instance:
- Quilts
- Military Uniforms and Ribbons
Flags and Banners
- Sports Uniforms
-
First Communion and Portrait Dresses
- Costumes
- Toys and Stuffed Animals
Your heirlooms deserve Fashion Cleaners' cleaning and preservation service
to maintain their condition.
Your treasured heirlooms will be inspected to ensure that oils, visible stains and marks are removed. We will also take care to remove troublesome stains that are invisible to the eye. Why does this matter? If left in place, these stains can discolor and eventually cause deterioration of the fabric.
Stains containing sugar or salt are not dissolved during ordinary
dry cleaning. Over time sugar stains “caramelize” into
unsightly brownish marks and streaks. Salt, a natural by-product
of contact with the skin, can remain in the garment after typical
dry cleaning. Our special process protects the life of your heirloom
and we always re-inspect to make sure that no stains remain.
Heirloom packaging is as critical as the preservation process itself. Ordinary boxes and packing tissues contain a form of acid that may cause yellowing and brown streaks which damage the fabric. During our process, the garment is carefully folded and shaped with high-quality acid-neutral tissue. Doing this prevents the tight creases that otherwise m might cause permanent damage to the fabric. You'll pick up your antiques and collectibles ready for storage in a museum-quality, acid-neutral archival chest.
